Dr. Stephen Rose, founder of Rose Imaging Specialists and Medical Director of Solis Mammography, co-authored the Scientific Paper of the Year: Breast Cancer Screening Using Tomosynthesis in Combination with Digital Mammography, Journal of the American Medical Association, June 25, 2014.
The award was recently given during the '2014 Minnies' - AuntMinnie.com's campaign to recognize the best and brightest in medical imaging. This year's campaign featured 201 candidates in 15 categories. Aunt Minnie is a consolidator of scientific articles for medical imaging.
The original study was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, one of the most prestigious peer-reviewed journals in the world. In addition, the study included data from a wide variety of practices, indicating that Digital Breast Tomosynthesis (3D mammography) shouldn't just be restricted to high-end academic centers.
The paper's findings state: The technology increased early detection by 29% while reducing recalls by 15%, echoing previous studies on tomosynthesis.
